Stop The Cuts

to Special Needs Children and their Programs

Douglas College announced there intention to cut some

Adult  Special Education programs.

Administrators stated this was a difficult decision to make.  It is a reckless and discriminatory action against these individuals who have such limited choices when it comes to further educating themselves.

The Douglas College Adult Special Education programs are the only programs of their kind in the Lower Mainland and deserve to be kept as part of the programming being offered in our community.

Although Douglas College has said they have received 2.6 % less than they had originally planned for , it is no excuse for such drastic action against the most vulnerable in our communities. We are requesting Douglas College reverse their decision and continue with the School District #43 Transition Program as well as the Cashier and Customer Service Programs.

Our government has stated there goals one of which is :

" Build the best system of support in Canada for persons with disabilities , those with special needs , children at risk and seniors."

It is time our government implemented this goal and prove to the people of this province they mean what they say.

We as taxpayers and voters need to show our support and force the government to reinstate targeted funding which will allow such programs to not only exist but to flourish.
